Despacito was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017 and became the number one streamed track in just 6 months. The song was a mix of pop and reggaeton that attracted attention to Latin music but also reggaeton. The Billboard Top 100 had four songs predominantly in Spanish as of 2016, in contrast to two in the year 2015. During the height of Despacito's popularity, however 19 mostly Spanish songs made it to the Top 100 as well, and by 2020 there were 41 of them. Justin Bieber remixed Despacito 2017 in a bilingual version. Soon, other artists collaborated with reggaeton superstars including Drake and Bad Bunny with MIA (2018), Madonna and Maluma together with Medellin 2019 A few performers of reggaeton lamented the trend towards mainstream music in 2020. But a new band, Rauw Alejandro was determined to keep the development and growth of reggaeton. The musician incorporated electronic dance music and other genres into his songs.
